We are a private, non-profit center that offers child care, adult day care, transportation services and award-winning intergenerational programs. We are located at 701 Wenonah Ave., Pearisburg, VA 24134.

Intergenerational Care

Giles Health & Family Center is a leader in excellent intergenerational care. In 2010, Giles Health & Family Center received the MetLife Foundation/Generations United Intergenerational Shared Site Excellence Award. This award is given to intergenerational shared sites where children, youth and older adults receive services at the same facility. These programs focus on building relationships between the generations through planned activities, as well as unplanned encounters.

Generations United honors organizations that are demonstrating exemplary practices. They award champions of best practices in intergenerational programs while raising the visibility or these important services and encouraging the development of new models.

Research has found that children who participate in intergenerational programming benefit in the following ways:

• Friendship on a continual basis
• Better social skills
• Individual time and attention
• Development of a positive attitude toward aging
• Opportunity to serve others
• Improved visual, auditory and tactile experiences

Adult Day Care

Adult Day Care is a program for adults who need supervision, care and support during the daytime while their caretaker(s) rest or work. Adult Day Care is a professional and cost-effective alternative to nursing home care or private sitters. We are licensed by The Virginia Department of Social Services, Virginia Department of Health and the Virginia Fire Marshall’s Office.

 Services we provide include rehabilitation, therapeutic recreation, socialization, health and nutrition monitoring, supervision for safety and assistance with activities in daily living. This includes assistance in bathing, toileting, walking, ambulating and dressing. We also provide breakfast, lunch and two nutritional snacks during thd day, as well as medication administration.

Our goals are to prevent premature or unnecessary nursing home placement, to provide a break for caregivers,  to promote independent living for adults with impairments, and to enhance the quality of life for disabled and older persons and their family caregivers. 



Rates and Hours of Operation

The Adult Day Care program is open Monday – Friday from 7:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Rates
Full Day:     $50
Half Day:    $30  (4 hours or less)
Bath:           $12

Transportation can be provided – cost is based on miles from the center.

Funding Sources

We are able to accept the following funding sources:

• Private Pay, including Visa, MasterCard and Discover
• Medicaid reimbursement through the Community Based Care Waiver
• Area Agencies on Aging
• Veteran’s Administration

Kids & Co. Child Development Center

As soon as you enter our center, you’ll see and feel why families are trusting us with the care of their children. Kids & Co. provides a safe, comfortable and affectionate environment for the emotional, physical and intellectual development of children.

The facility is designed with large windows, a spacious outdoor play area and colorful equipment with materials that invite children to explore, learn, create, communicate and enjoy their day. The fully fenced outdoor play area ensures your child’s complete privacy and safety.

We are dedicated to helping your child develop their skills, abilities and interests. Our program is designed to foster accelerated learning and to provide individual support to each child. Our staff expects to work closely with you in this effort and we encourage you to maintain close contact with your child’s teacher and the center director.

Our goals are to foster the growth and development of your child’s emotional, social, physical and intellectual well-being.

Our child care program currently enrolls children from 6 mos. up to 12 years for after-school care. Our preschool program provides excellent preparation for kindergarten. We are an approved provider by the Giles County Department of Social Services and have a contract with them to provide care for families with subsidies. We also accept private payment, as well as Visa, MasterCard and Discover.

1 – 2 days/week:     $49/week
Full Time:                $96/week

Schoolers
1 – 2 days/week:     $45/week
Full Time:                $88/week

Before OR After School
Macy:                       $45/week
Narrows/Eastern:  $50/week

Before AND After School
Macy:                       $51/week
Narrows/Eastern:  $56/week

Additional charge for snow day/holiday is $8/day

Discounts
15% for sibling groups enrolled full time
10% for sibling groups enrolled part time

A $1.00 charge per minute, per child, when picked up after 6:00 p.m.

No registration fee required.

Transportation Services

As the only Medicaid provider in the area, we provide transportation services to and from the center and to doctor’s appointments. We currently have one wheelchair accessible bus and three cars. Recently, we received a grant from the Virginia Department of Rail & Public Transportation which will allow us to obtain a new 15-passenger bus, expected to arrive in March-April 2011.

Rates are based on mileage to and from the client’s home and destination and whether the rider requires a wheelchair accessible vehicle. Please call the center for more information at 540-921-3024.
